Yoga Therapy for Cancer
Supporting your body, mind and spirit, wherever you are in your journey
A Holistic Approach
A cancer diagnosis changes life in many ways, physically, emotionally, and mentally. Yoga therapy offers a compassionate and individualised approach to help you navigate these changes and support your wellbeing throughout treatment and recovery.
Personalised Practices for Every Stage
Each session is tailored to your unique needs and may include breath practices, gentle movement, guided relaxation, and mindfulness. These practices can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, ease fatigue, and restore confidence in your body’s ability to heal.
Research consistently shows that yoga therapy improves quality of life for people affected by cancer by reducing fatigue, easing anxiety and depression, improving sleep and supporting emotional balance. Details in the research section below.

What Does the Research Say?
The evidence for yoga therapy in cancer care is now extensive and well-established within integrative oncology. The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), the global peak body for yoga therapy, lists cancer care as one of the strongest and most consistent areas of yoga therapy research.
A landmark review by Danhauer et al. (Supportive Care in Cancer, 2018), cited by IAYT as a key oncology reference, found consistent improvements in psychological outcomes including depression, distress and anxiety for people doing yoga therapy during cancer treatment, as well as improvements in quality of life, sleep and immune biomarkers.
A 410-person nationwide multicentre randomised controlled trial (Lin et al., Integrative Cancer Therapies, 2019), found that yoga therapy significantly improved cancer-related fatigue compared to standard care. The authors concluded: ‘Oncologists should consider prescribing yoga to cancer survivors for treating cancer-related fatigue and sleep disturbance.’
A 2024 umbrella review (Giridharan et al., Cureus) confirmed these findings across multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and a 2024 biochemical review (Blockhuys & Wittung-Stafshede) identified the mechanisms, reduced cortisol, improved immune function and decreased oxidative stress.
For breast cancer specifically, yoga therapy has reduced fatigue, improved quality of life and supported better emotional wellbeing compared to standard care alone across multiple randomised trials.
Yoga therapy is not a treatment for cancer itself. It is a complementary practice, used alongside, not instead of, your medical treatment, that supports your body, mind and nervous system through one of life’s most challenging experiences.
