natural pain relief in Camden, NSW

Pain Doesn’t Have to Be Your Normal

Natural, evidence-based relief for chronic pain, injury and persistent pain conditions using Bowen Therapy and Yoga Therapy in Camden, NSW.

Understanding Chronic Pain

Living with chronic pain can be exhausting, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Pain can affect sleep, mood, concentration, and even confidence in your body’s ability to move. Over time, the nervous system becomes more sensitive, amplifying pain signals even when there’s no new injury.
Yoga Therapy offers a gentle, science-informed approach to help you understand these changes and gradually retrain your body and mind toward balance and relief.

Help for acute and chronic pain

How Bowen Therapy Helps with Pain

Bowen Therapy is a hands-on, technique that works directly with the musculoskeletal and nervous systems to relieve pain and restore function. It is particularly effective for pain that has not responded to other treatments, or that keeps returning despite short-term relief.

Bowen works by making precise, rolling moves across muscles, tendons and fascia with short pauses built in that allow the body to integrate each move. This resets the nervous system, releases fascial restrictions and reduces muscle guarding that often perpetuates pain patterns. Treatment takes place fully clothed on a massage table and is deeply relaxing.

Bowen Therapy is well-suited for:

  • Acute and chronic back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Sciatica and nerve-related pain
  • Joint pain, including hips and knees
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Sports injuries and post-surgical recovery
  • Frozen shoulder and rotator cuff issues
  • Postural pain from desk work or repetitive strain

How Yoga Therapy Helps with Pain

Yoga Therapy for pain takes a different approach. Rather than working on the body directly, it teaches you to work with your body developing a new relationship with movement, breath and rest that gradually reduces pain and builds resilience.

Yoga Therapy for pain combines evidence-based movement, breathing techniques, mindfulness and relaxation practices to calm the overactive stress response that often keeps pain patterns alive. Each session is one-to-one and tailored entirely to your body, your condition and your goals. You do not need any yoga experience, and sessions are never about stretching further or doing more.

Yoga Therapy is particularly valuable for:

  • Chronic pain conditions that have a significant nervous system component
  • Fibromyalgia and widespread pain
  • Arthritis and inflammatory joint conditions
  • Pain accompanied by anxiety, depression or poor sleep
  • Those who want to build long-term self-management skills
  • Recovery from cancer treatment-related pain

What is Research Showing About Yoga in Pain Care?

The evidence for yoga therapy in chronic pain is strong, and now formally recognised at professional and government levels.

The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), the global peak body for yoga therapy, published a dedicated White Paper on yoga therapy and pain (Pearson et al., International Journal of Yoga Therapy, 2020). It states that yoga therapy can make a meaningful contribution to solving the overlapping public health crises of chronic pain, opioid misuse and mental health disorders, describing it as a patient-centred intervention that addresses body and mind and focuses on overall wellbeing and quality of life.

The research is particularly strong for:
– Arthritis and joint pain: An 8-year clinical trial at Johns Hopkins University (Moonaz et al., 2015) cited by IAYT, found that yoga improved arthritis pain by 40%, alongside improvements in physical fitness, psychological functioning and quality of life
– Chronic lower back pain: Multiple systematic reviews confirm yoga reduces pain intensity and improves function, with one 2023 RCT finding yoga therapy significantly outperformed usual care at both 1 and 3 months
– Tension headaches: A systematic review and meta-analysis (Anheyer et al.) found statistically significant improvements in headache frequency, duration and pain intensity
– Fibromyalgia and widespread pain: Yoga consistently improves mood, sleep and pain tolerance

A 2023 paper in Frontiers in Pain Research (Chopra et al.) explored yoga as a mind-body system for pain, identifying its capacity to address both the physical sensations and the neurological sensitisation that keeps chronic pain patterns alive long after the original injury.

In 2024, the Australian Government’s NHMRC Natural Therapies Review included yoga in its evidence evaluation, acknowledging its role as a complementary approach for chronic pain conditions.
