What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest systems of natural health, originating in India over 5,000 years ago. The word itself means ‘the science of life’ and at its heart, Ayurveda is a practical, deeply personalised guide to living in balance with your own nature.

Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, Ayurveda looks at the whole person: your unique constitution (known as your dosha), your digestion, your daily routines, your sleep, your stress levels and your emotional patterns. When these are in balance, the body has an extraordinary capacity to restore and maintain good health.

What is an Ayurvedic Consultation?

An Ayurvedic Consultation with Rebecca is a one-to-one, in-depth conversation about your health, your lifestyle and your goals. It is not a medical appointment, Rebecca is a qualified Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant, not an Ayurvedic doctor. Her focus is on practical, accessible lifestyle and dietary guidance that you can apply in everyday life.

Think of it as a thorough, personalised health reset, grounded in ancient wisdom and tailored entirely to you. Sessions complement any medical care you are already receiving, including from your GP or specialist.

Who is An Ayurvedic Consultation For

Ayurvedic Consultation is ideal for anyone who feels something is ‘off’ but can’t quite put their finger on why and a powerful complement to Bowen Therapy or Yoga Therapy for those already on a healing journey.

You may benefit from it if you are experiencing:

  • Persistent fatigue or low energy that doesn’t improve with rest
  • Digestive discomfort like bloating, irregular digestion or food sensitivities
  • Disrupted sleep or difficulty winding down at night
  • Hormonal imbalances, menstrual irregularities or perimenopausal symptoms
  • Chronic stress, anxiety or a persistent feeling of overwhelm
  • Skin concerns, inflammation or recurring illness
  • A general sense of being ‘out of balance’ without a clear diagnosis
  • A desire to understand your unique constitution and live in better alignment with it

How Does It Work Alongside Bowen Therapy and Yoga Therapy?

Showing Bowen therapy pain management session for muscle relief

One of the things that makes Serene Wellbeing Therapies genuinely different is the ability to draw on three complementary modalities in one place. Many clients find that combining an Ayurvedic Consultation with regular Bowen Therapy or Yoga Therapy sessions significantly deepens their results.

For example, Bowen Therapy may relieve physical pain and reset the nervous system, while an Ayurvedic Consultation identifies the dietary and lifestyle patterns that may be keeping inflammation or stress elevated. Together, they address both the symptom and the underlying terrain, creating lasting change rather than temporary relief.

What does the research say about Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is one of the world’s most extensively practised systems of traditional medicine, and research into its modern applications has grown substantially in recent years.

A 2023 bibliometric analysis published in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (Nedungadi et al.) identified Ayurveda research as a rapidly growing global field, with emerging evidence mapping its principles to health outcomes including stress management, metabolic health, hormonal balance and digestive function.

For women’s health, a 2024 literature review published in Cureus (Patibandla et al.) examined Ayurvedic interventions across the full spectrum of female reproductive health finding evidence for their effectiveness in managing menstrual irregularities, perimenopausal symptoms and the menopausal transition through personalised lifestyle and dietary approaches.

For stress and mental wellbeing, Ayurvedic lifestyle practices including dinacharya (daily routine), dietary modification and nervous system regulation have been studied alongside yoga in multiple trials, consistently showing reductions in cortisol, improved sleep and enhanced emotional regulation.

The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) notes that yoga has historically been an integral part of Ayurveda as a system of health, and research increasingly supports their combined use. This integrated approach addressing both the body’s daily rhythms through Ayurveda and its capacity for healing through yoga, is at the heart of what Rebecca offers at Serene Wellbeing Therapies.

Important note: Rebecca’s Ayurvedic Consultations focus on lifestyle and dietary guidance as a qualified Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant. Sessions complement, not replace, conventional medical care. Please always consult your GP regarding your health.

What to Expect at Your First Session

Your first session is a conversation, not a clinical assessment. There is nothing to prepare, nothing to memorise and no wrong answers. Rebecca will guide you through everything.

The session typically runs 60–90 minutes and begins with a warm, in-depth discussion about your health history, daily routines, digestion, sleep, energy levels and the concerns that brought you here. Rebecca will ask questions that may feel quite different from a standard medical appointment, Ayurveda looks at the whole picture of how you live, not just what is currently going wrong.

From there, Rebecca will share her observations about your constitution and the imbalances she identifies, and you’ll leave the session with some simple changes you can make immediately. Rebecca will then develop your in-depth personalised plan which she will present to you at your follow up session.

It is then recommended that another two follow up sessions happen across the next 1-2 months to check in and see if any further changes need to be made to your plan. Sessions are held at 12 McCrae Drive, Camden South NSW 2570.

What Our Clients Say

“My husband and I struggled with fertility for many years, we had even discussed IVF with our doctor and I started seeing a fertility specialist.
After seeing no results at the “specialist” I decided to stop going.

Within 6 months of seeing Rebecca on a monthly basis, we fell pregnant naturally, it was a complete surprise as we had given up on having another child.

We cannot thank Rebecca enough.
She has changed not only my life, but my entire family’s life.

Thank you Rebecca!”
