Yoga for Pain Care

Supporting Chronic Pain with Evidence-Based Yoga Therapy

When pain lingers, it can touch every part of your life. Yoga therapy supports you in finding comfort, resilience and a sense of wholeness again.

Understanding Chronic Pain

Living with chronic pain can be exhausting, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Pain can affect sleep, mood, concentration, and even confidence in your body’s ability to move. Over time, the nervous system becomes more sensitive, amplifying pain signals even when there’s no new injury.
Yoga Therapy offers a gentle, science-informed approach to help you understand these changes and gradually retrain your body and mind toward balance and relief.

How Yoga Therapy Helps

Yoga Therapy for pain care combines evidence-based movement, breathing techniques, mindfulness, and relaxation practices to calm the overactive stress response that often keeps pain patterns alive.

Each session is tailored to you, your unique body, your lifestyle, and your goals. Together, we explore movement in a way that feels safe and achievable, supporting better mobility, circulation, and function. Breathing practices help regulate the nervous system, while mindfulness and meditation can reduce tension, fear, and stress associated with ongoing pain.

What is Research Showing about Yoga in Pain Care?

Research shows that yoga therapy can help reduce chronic pain intensity, improve mood, and enhance quality of life by addressing both physical and psychological aspects of pain.

Studies have demonstrated yoga’s effectiveness in improving function and reducing disability in people with conditions such as chronic lower back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and tension headaches.
Evidence also supports yoga’s role in reducing anxiety and depression, which often accompany persistent pain.

The Australian Yoga Therapy community (AAYT) recognises yoga therapy as a complementary modality that integrates modern pain science with ancient yogic wisdom.

What you’ll experience in a session?

In your one-to-one sessions, we’ll begin by discussing your health history, current challenges, and the impact pain has on your daily life. From there, I’ll design a personalised yoga program to support your physical comfort, emotional wellbeing, and overall energy.

You’ll be guided through simple, mindful movement, breathing, and relaxation techniques that you can continue at home. Over time, you’ll learn to recognise your body’s signals, build resilience, and create a new relationship with movement and rest.
