Acknowledgement

What has happened, can’t be undone, but it can be acknowledged

Australia’s Traditional Owners

I would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land where I work and live, the Dharawal people, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and future. I celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land.

Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.

Acknowledgement of Yoga’s history and Origin

A serene scene of meditation by the Ganges River in Varanasi, highlighting spiritual tranquility.

To acknowledge the origin of Yoga, one must understand that Yoga is a spiritual practice that came to the world from the Indian Sub-continent.

Over it’s lifetime, some 5,000 plus years, Yoga has withstood attempted abolishment of its teachings by the colonisers of its native homeland, and more recently, it’s appropriation by the west who have homogenised and commercialised this sacred learning, for personal gain.

When I originally started practicing Yoga some 30 years ago, I was just as guilty of appropriating this sacred teaching. And so before I continue to share Yoga’s teaching, I want to ensure that I acknowledge and thank those who have spent their life protecting and sharing this practice.

I want to thank my own teachers who, over the last 3 decades have educated me in both the teachings and the sad history of Yoga and it’s Homeland. My own visit to India in 2025 helped me to grow in my appreciation for the country, what it has given the world and the horrible treatment it has received.

May this incredible teaching continue to be shared, but done so with authenticity and ongoing acknowledgment and gratitude to the culture that has so generously shared it with the world.

My Teachers

I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge all of the teachers who have played a very important part in my learning and growth thanks to the Yogic knowledge they have shared.

  • Mark Breadner – my very first teacher when I was just 20yo.
  • Dr Michael de Manincor – who was a student of TKV Desikachar and my teacher for my Yoga Teacher Training.
  • Octavio Salvado – a student of the Sri Vidya lineage with whom I learnt so much about yoga and energy.
  • Sal Flynn and the teachers at Yoga Therapy Institute – who guided me on my path to Yoga Therapy.
  • Caroline Robertson – for helping me to have a better understanding of Ayurveda and how it works with Yoga.
  • Kaya Mindlin – my current teacher, a student of Sri Krishan Mantri and disciple of guru Pujya Swami Dayananda. Kaya, who made me want to be a Bhakti and helps me everyday to see the Divine in everything.
